Picture this, your child is sick once again. You take them to the doctor for another of multiple visits all to receive yet another round of antibiotics. Your child continues on medications but doesn't really seem to get better or gets better just long enough to make it to the next season. There seems to be no relief for your little one and just as they seem to get a little better, the seasons begin changing. Chances are, if you're a parent, you have been in situations similar to this.
It is well known that children get sick easier and sometimes stay sick longer than adults. Their little immune systems aren't what ours are and it shows. As a parent, it can be frustrating watching your little one stay sick with no relief from symptoms or pain; you will almost try anything just so see if it works. This is how many of our young visitors end up at The Salt Oasis Kingsport. We have three hours a week dedicated to children but still try to accommodate as best as possible.
We have gotten a lot of questions from parents about Salt Therapy and if it is safe for children, how old do they have to be, will it help them and how many times do they need to come?
Generally we can answer all of those questions, but each answer can vary specifically of course.
Is Salt Therapy Safe for your Kids?
Salt therapy is 100% natural and therefore safe for anyone of any age. It is a clinically proved safe, natural way to treat a ton of symptoms from as little as 6 months old. It can help treat all major symptoms of coughs, colds, allergies, sinuses and even asthma. Here is a few things it can do...
Kills Bacteria (the salt dries out any harmful bacteria)
Strengthens immune system and helps restore energy level
Removes airborne pollen from the body
Reduces oversensitivity to the immune system
Loosens excessive mucous while speeding elimination of toxins
How Old does my child have to be for Salt Therapy?
Children can be as small as 6 months old one receiving Salt Therapy. We have had children at The Salt Oasis Kingsport as little as 7 months old. Taking your child to a salt room is basically the same as taking them to the beach. If you would take your baby to the beach to breathe salt air, then it is one to take them for Salt Therapy.
Will Salt Therapy really help my child?
The answer is almost always....yes! Salt Therapy has amazing healing powers and seems to work exceptionally well for children. A regular routine can help them with so many things such as.....
Asthma
Not only can it bring much needed relief, but can also reduce frequency of attacks
Ear Infections
Many are caused by excess mucous in the ear canal that harbor bacteria, Salt Therapy can dry the mucous and kill the bacteria.
Colds and Coughs
An involuntary reaction to clear airways of mucous, pollutants and other things coughs are worse in the winter and spring. Salt Therapy can help dry excess mucous and detoxify faster. Even relief from dry coughs is common. Dry coughs are formed by mucous deep in the lungs and breathing dry salt will travel deep into the lungs.
Eczema
Affecting one in five children, eczema is a form of dermatitis which is caused by inflammation of the skin. Salt Therapy can relieve eczema due to it's anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
Bronchitis
Chest Infections
Psoriasis
Pneumonia
How many times does my child need to come to see results?
Obviously, the more frequently you are able to bring your child the faster Salt Therapy can truly help begin to heal them. The frequency of course depends on the severity but one to two times a week is a safe number of times for children to come. We have children at the Oasis that come once a week and some that come three times a week.
This is why we have Kid's Hour three times a week on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 9 a.m. and Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m. While those times are designated for children and we recommend bringing them in during those times, we also know not everyone's schedule fits into ours! We try to be as accommodating as possible when it comes to children and their health. You can call us whenever to see if we an't get something scheduled with you and your child.
"I came in due to my sinus infection and was also hoping for relief for one of my boys, it turns out that salt therapy is great for kids too!! I'm looking forward to going back with my 8 year old."
-Brittany Dye, a client of The Salt Oasis
Kids hour is one of the most fun times we
have here because children come in and are so amazed at the Salt Room. They remain wide eyed as they walk through the door to realize the ground is covered in salt and that they have toys waiting on them. For 45 minutes they get to play or relax while the parents get to enjoy a salt session as well. Most of the kids don't understand exactly how or why it helps them, but they know they feel better and can breath better after a treatment. All while having a blast at what a couple of children have called the inside beach.
